The centerpiece of the Albany Downtown Riverfront Master Plan (Albany, Georgia) is the $31 million Flint River Center; a one-of-a-kind educational facility and tourist attraction featuring a constructed  175,000 gallon Blue Hole that demonstrates water discharge from the Floridian aquifer. The sculptural building surrounding the Blue Hole is designed with underground passageways for visitors to view it and its unique, ecologic and hydrologic components. A new habitat, including plants, insects, fish and animals, is incorporated into the exhibit, along with interactive and educational exhibits, an IMAX theater and a path to the river. The center includes approximately 35,000 gross square feet of indoor space and 19,050 square feet of outdoor space.  The floors are carried by pre-cast joists, the sod roof is supported by metal joists, and the pyramidal main roof is designed with steel beams and a metal deck.  The perimeter walls of the exhibit areas consist of tilted concrete panels supporting limestone pavers.
